NRIs to benefit from MOUs with UAE, Kuwait
Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Non resident Indians residing in the UAE and Kuwait would henceforth be protected by agreements signed between the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and the respective governments.

MOUs signed with the governments of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates had agreed to establish dispute resolution committees to protect the interests of Indians employed on contract there.

Cases would be reviewed on a half-yearly basis to sort out issues faced by NRIs in these Gulf states.

The Ministry has already initiated the process of having similar agreements with other countries in the region.

As reported earlier, the proposal for a NRI university is also under consideration - an evaluation committee would shortly scrutinize the 4 proposals the centre has received from the states.
