MP included in DMIC Project

The futuristic Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor involving an investment of USD 90 billion has been approved by the Union Cabinet, and will include the Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow stretch in Madhya Pradesh as an investment region.

To be undertaken in collaboration with Japan, the DMIC project will also traverse the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra, as revealed by the Union Commerce and Industry Ministry in July.

Industrial regions which will be the focus of growth under the project will be Meerut-Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, Faridabad-Palwal in Haryana, Jaipur-Dausa in Rajasthan, Vadodara-Ankleshwar inGujarat, Alewadi-Dighi in Maharashtra and Neemach in Madhya Pradesh.

The 1,483 km long Dedicated Railway Freight Corridor will see 250 projects coming up, and more roads, ports, industrial parks and SEZs would be developed with investments supported by the private sector. 2012 has been set as the deadline for the project which will start in 2008-09.

The Japanese financial services corporation Orix had already initiated a USD 100 million development fund in partnership with ILFS in 2006.

Mitsui Corporation has expressed its wish to develop a major logistics centre around the Corridor, in addition to its free trade warehousing zone in Noida India has sought stronger economic ties with Japan and is engaged in discussions with officials which would cover goods, services and investments.

The Commerce Ministry is looking to a USD 5 billion investment in infrastructure from Japan. The Delhi Metro and the Delhi –Mumbai Dedicated Rail Freight Corridor have been funded largely by Japan.
